![]() Awesome classes there, and free! Here’s their calendar. I taught for many years at the building school in SL called Builders Brewery. Usually wearing a free-for-new-accounts outfit from Silent Sparrow (still available in the back of their store near the big bird in the cage). My current main is a Kinzart ferret (L$1000) with a pine marten modkit (L$100). Just teleport to the collection of green dots in the North-East of Lusk sim. More conventional furs? There's usually a lot of furs hanging out in Lusk in front of the Luskwood store. Check their sims out, you'll find people who are enthusiastic and helpful. Tinies (hyperstylized cute little toy animals) are L$350, and they have a pretty vigorous community (I recently attended Wootstock and it filled a sim and part of another one). Kinzart and some other vendors sell their old avatars for a reduced rate, for example you can get the Kinzart foxes for L$400 and the Sergals for L$300. And as a bonus they will be able to wear most free outfits. So US$5 could definitely get you started. Typical old-school (using the Linden body for the base, instead of mesh) furry avatars are L$800 or L$900. US$5 is about L$900 at a good rate (market buy, not buying in the client). ![]() There are some other freebie furry avatars, some of them better than others, but they're not exceptional. That was about the best free furry avatar available. You used to be able to get Uchi Desmoulin's cat avatar for free but he's recently left SL and shut down his sim. The reindeers can be easily modded with deer antlers or antelope horns. There's a free collection of avatars by Wingless Emoto that have these really soulful wolf and reindeer avatars. You load up into the world, have a shitty base avi which you will likely want to upgrade (which costs real $$$ unless you get lucky with nice freebies), and will need to search for an appropriate sim/ community (sort of like a server) that interests you and hope that it's still active. I just want to give you a realistic idea of what to expect. I'm not trying to bash SL, or anyone who still enjoys it. There were some really active creative and social communities once upon a time, but, from my own recent experience, much of the non-sexual virtual gaming has since moved off of SL to other platforms, and it's really dead compared to what it used to be. You MAY be able to find an active group to hang out with, but outside of sexual encounters, it will could be difficult. Many of the people that still play are in exclusive niche groups, and most of the impressive Sims that were built are all empty now. It's basically VR chat, but an older version. To some people it is VERY addicting, and you could lose a lot of real-life money. It's very fun, don't get me wrong, some of the sims are mind-blowing and awesome to visit: but know what you're getting yourself involved in. It is, literally, a mostly player-created virtual world, and when I say "player created" I mean that people are spending high amounts of $$$$ in Second Life on their own custom-created servers, houses, and etc. There are no classes, no health, no abilities, no quests, no stats, no NPCs, nothing. It is MUCH more of a 3D virtual chat and economy system than a video game. but even if you do those, it's small cash flow. You might be able to do favors for people and hope they pay you, get a "job" on SL for currency, or create your own content (requires 3D building knowledge) and set up a shop. it is TECHNICALLY free, as in the client and creating an account is free, and always will be: but almost everything you will encounter in "game", or will want to customize your avatar with, buy a house with, get a vehicle, create a sim with, etc.- it ALL costs real money in a sense, because the only way to acquire large amounts of "game currency" is to purchase it with cash. Don't be fooled by people claiming it is "free" or a "game".
